KANPUR: A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday morning when a speeding ambulance carrying a dead body from Delhi to Jharkhand lost control and rammed into a moving truck from behind near Nanmai village on the Kanpur-Varanasi National Highway No. 2, under the limits of Kokhraj police station in Kaushambi district.
Accident Details
The incident took place when the ambulance collided with the rear of a moving truck. According to police reports, the driver, identified as Aakash (22), a resident of Etawah, lost control of the vehicle. The ambulance was transporting the body of Ganesh Mandal (50) from New Delhi to Jharkhand. Four individuals accompanying the deceased sustained serious injuries in the collision.
Rescue and Medical Aid
Upon receiving an alert, senior police officials and local residents rushed to the accident site. They promptly rescued the injured and transported them to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The injured include Aakash (22), Lalita (38), Manjoo (32), and Harkoo. Additionally, a woman named Maya was seriously injured and admitted to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj for specialized care.
Condition of the Injured
Police confirmed that three of the occupants, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged from Manjhanpur district hospital after receiving first aid. However, Maya remains under treatment at SRN Hospital due to the severity of her injuries. Two minor occupants of the ambulance, Janhavi and Anjali, were unhurt in the accident.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed and loss of control were contributing factors. The driver, Aakash, is among the injured and is being treated. Further details are awaited as police continue their inquiry.
