Tiya Selected for Global All-Girls Lunar Satellite Mission

Tiya, a Class XII medical student at the School of Eminence for Girls, Mall Road, Amritsar, has been chosen as India's representative for Mission ShakthiSAT, an all-girls lunar satellite mission backed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe). The mission connects 108 countries and aims to inspire young women in space science.

Workshop and Training in Delhi

Tiya will attend an eight-day National Workshop in Delhi this August. She has been mentored by Kamal Kumar, a chemistry lecturer at the school, and Principal Mandeep Kaur. Her selection follows her recognition at the Bright Minds Programme-2026, where she received accolades from Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains and AAP Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia.

Punjab Education Minister Praises Young Scientist

Calling Tiya a young scientist and an example of excellence in Punjab government schools, Bains said, “Last year, a batch of government school students were sent on an educational tour to ISRO headquarters at Sriharikota. A few of them asked why there was not a single Punjabi face visible there. Now, with students like Tiya, we can say that students from the state will not only represent Punjab but also India in the field of science and technology.”

Mission ShakthiSAT Details

Mission ShakthiSAT is a global space engineering mission conceived and led by Space Kidz India through the In-SPACe platform and supported by ISRO. It shortlists 12,000 girl students from 108 countries, who will receive a five-week training in the design, development, and launch of lunar-bound satellites. The mission aims to encourage young women to pursue careers in space science and engineering.

Tiya's Background and Aspirations

Tiya has been actively involved in her school’s ATAL Tinkering Lab projects. Expressing her excitement, she said, “I am grateful to my teachers and mentors, who registered me for the programme and supported me through the selection process. I hope to pursue my dream of becoming a scientist.” The School of Eminence at Mall Road previously sent a batch of 10 girls under ISRO’s AzadiSat programme, where students developed a strawberry circuit for a satellite launched to celebrate India’s 75 years of Independence.
