In a significant development for infrastructure in Nagaland, the Assam Rifles formally handed over 18.8 acres of land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Friday. The land, currently under the occupation of the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School located at 3rd Mile, Chumoukedima, will be utilized for the Phase-I expansion of Dimapur airport.
Land Handover Ceremony
The handover took place during a ceremony held at Dimapur airport, marking a crucial step toward enhancing the airport's capacity and facilities. The expansion is expected to improve connectivity and support economic growth in the region.
Strategic Importance
Dimapur airport serves as a key gateway to Nagaland and the surrounding northeastern states. The expansion project aims to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and enable larger aircraft operations, thereby boosting tourism and trade.
The Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force under the Indian Army, has played a pivotal role in the region's security and development. This land transfer underscores the collaborative efforts between defense forces and civil authorities to enhance regional infrastructure.
With the Phase-I expansion, the airport is expected to witness upgraded terminal buildings, extended runways, and improved navigation systems. These enhancements will not only benefit travelers but also strengthen the logistical capabilities for defense and emergency services.
The development aligns with the central government's focus on improving air connectivity in the Northeast under the UDAN scheme. Local residents and businesses have welcomed the move, anticipating better economic opportunities and easier access to other parts of the country.
