Badlapur Traffic Signals Off During Afternoon Heat Wave
Badlapur Traffic Signals Off During Afternoon Heat

In a move aimed at providing relief to commuters, especially two-wheeler riders who often endure long waits at traffic signals under extreme heat conditions, the Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council has decided to switch off all traffic signals in the area between 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm, effective Wednesday. With temperatures soaring to 42 degrees Celsius, the afternoon hours have become particularly challenging for those stuck at intersections.

Decision to Ease Commuter Woes

Ruchita Rajendra Ghorpade, president of the Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council, explained that the decision was taken considering the relatively low traffic movement during the afternoon hours. She stated, "Traffic movement is relatively low during the afternoon hours, and switching off signals will help reduce the time commuters spend exposed to the sun." The move is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters who navigate the area's roads.

Advisory for Motorists

The civic body has advised motorists to exercise caution and strictly follow traffic rules during the period when signals are off. Drivers are urged to treat intersections as four-way stops, yielding to vehicles on their right and proceeding only when safe. Two-wheeler riders, in particular, are advised to wear helmets and remain vigilant to avoid accidents.

This temporary measure will remain in effect until further notice, with the council monitoring the situation and considering extensions if the heat wave persists. Commuters have welcomed the decision, expressing hope that similar steps will be taken in other parts of the city to mitigate the impact of extreme weather on daily travel.
