West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced that the state government has granted land transfer to the Border Security Force (BSF) for constructing fencing along the Bangladesh border. This move is aimed at bolstering security and preventing illegal cross-border activities.
Key Announcements
During a press briefing on Tuesday, CM Adhikari stated, 'We have completed the land transfer process to facilitate BSF's fencing project. This will strengthen our border infrastructure.' He also confirmed the implementation of the Centre's flagship Ayushman Bharat health scheme in the state, along with several other Union government initiatives.
Ayushman Bharat Implementation
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) will now be rolled out across West Bengal, providing health coverage to millions of families. 'This scheme will ensure that every citizen has access to quality healthcare without financial burden,' the CM added.
Other Central Schemes
Adhikari listed additional central schemes being adopted, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the Ujjwala Yojana. He emphasized that these programs would accelerate development and improve living standards in the state.
Political Context
The announcement marks a shift in the state's stance towards central initiatives, as West Bengal had previously resisted several Union schemes. 'We are committed to cooperative federalism and the welfare of our people,' Adhikari said.
Security experts have welcomed the border fencing decision, noting that it will curb infiltration and smuggling. The BSF has been seeking land for fencing in sensitive areas along the 2,217-km India-Bangladesh border.
CM Adhikari concluded by urging all stakeholders to support these initiatives for a safer and more prosperous West Bengal.
