Bengaluru is set to develop a transit-oriented development (TOD) project near Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli. This initiative is part of the Bengaluru-Hyderabad high-speed rail corridor and focuses on compact, mixed-use urban growth around mass transit systems.
80-Hectare Land Proposed for Development
Approximately 80 hectares of land is proposed to be acquired for the TOD project near Devanahalli. The plan aims to create a structured urban zone that integrates rail, airport, and road transport systems, promoting efficient land use and reducing urban sprawl.
Multimodal Transport Integration Planned
The TOD model seeks to integrate air, rail, metro, and road connectivity, positioning Devanahalli as a multimodal transport hub. This integration is expected to improve commuter movement and reduce dependence on private vehicles, contributing to sustainable urban development.
High-Speed Rail Corridor Driving the Project
The 607-km Bengaluru-Hyderabad high-speed rail corridor, featuring 15 stations, is a key driver of the TOD plan. Karnataka will host major stations, including Devanahalli and Kodihalli, which will serve as focal points for transit-oriented growth.
Station Planned Near Bengaluru Airport
The proposed high-speed rail station near Kempegowda International Airport will be located approximately 2 km from KIA. This station will improve airport access and link multiple transport modes in a single hub, enhancing connectivity for travelers and residents.
Corridor Alignment Planned via NH-44 Route
Preliminary plans indicate that the elevated corridor will run along National Highway 44 near Chikkasanne and pass through Bettakote Lake before reaching the airport-adjacent station. This alignment ensures efficient routing and minimal disruption to existing infrastructure.
Hoskote Also Emerging as Transit Hub
Kodihalli in Hoskote is expected to develop as another transit-oriented hub, connecting both the Bengaluru-Hyderabad and Bengaluru-Chennai high-speed rail corridors with surrounding urban growth. This dual-hub strategy aims to distribute development and reduce congestion in central Bengaluru.
