Bengaluru's Purple Line metro services will be suspended for two hours on May 31, 2025, to facilitate essential maintenance work. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced the temporary suspension on Wednesday, urging commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.
Details of the Suspension
The metro services on the Purple Line, which runs between Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri, will be halted from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on the specified date. During this period, trains will not operate on this stretch, and passengers are advised to use alternative modes of transport such as buses or private vehicles.
Reason for the Shutdown
BMRCL officials stated that the suspension is necessary for scheduled maintenance and inspection of tracks and signaling systems. This routine work aims to ensure the safety and reliability of metro operations. The corporation apologised for the inconvenience caused and requested cooperation from the public.
Alternate Arrangements
To minimise disruption, BMRCL has coordinated with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to deploy additional buses along the affected route. Commuters can also consider using feeder buses or other metro lines, such as the Green Line, which will operate normally. The corporation advised passengers to check real-time updates on its official website and social media channels.
This is not the first time such a suspension has occurred; similar maintenance shutdowns have been conducted in the past to upgrade infrastructure. BMRCL emphasised that these measures are crucial for the long-term efficiency of the metro network.
Commuters are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time on May 31. The metro services are expected to resume at 12:00 PM as scheduled.
