Bhopal Hits 43.6°C as Heatwave Sweeps Madhya Pradesh

The relentless heatwave continued to push temperatures to alarming levels across Madhya Pradesh, with the maximum temperature on Tuesday nearly hitting 45 degrees Celsius. The state capital, Bhopal, recorded its second-highest temperature in 10 years for April at 43.6 degrees Celsius.

Record Temperatures and Warnings

Previously, in 2019, Bhopal had recorded 43.7 degrees Celsius, the highest in a decade. As the mercury soared, the Meteorological department issued fresh heatwave warnings for several districts. However, the Met department also promised a marginal decrease of two degrees in daytime temperatures starting Thursday.

Day and Night Temperatures

On Tuesday, Bhopal's daytime temperature was three degrees above normal, while the overnight temperature stood at an oppressive 26.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees above the normal mark. Khajuraho recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44.8 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall and Thunderstorms

Despite the intense heat, the Met department recorded some rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Shivpuri, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Damoh, Sagar, Panna, Katni, Jabalpur, Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni, and Satna districts. A hailstorm lashed Panna, while Chhindwara and Chhatarpur continued to bear the brunt of the heatwave. Ujjain, Rewa, Satna, and Chhatarpur districts experienced warm nights, and Umaria recorded a severe warm night.

Forecast for Wednesday

The Met department forecast clear skies for Bhopal on Wednesday, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be 43 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. However, an average wind speed of 20 kmph is expected to bring some respite from the heat.

Heatwave Warnings Issued

A heatwave warning was issued for Vidisha, Raisen, Ratlam, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Sheopur, Satna, Damoh, and Sagar districts. Meanwhile, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, interspersed with the heatwave, were forecast for Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Chhindwara, Mandla, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari.
