A tragic incident occurred in Palakkad on Tuesday morning, where a 10-year-old boy drowned in the Kalpathy River while trying to save his uncle who had slipped into the water while bathing. The deceased has been identified as Adarsh, son of Manoj, a resident of Peechiyachan Nagar, Kunnumpuram, Palakkad. Adarsh was a Class VIII student at St Thomas School, Railway Colony.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place around 10 am at the bathing ghat near Kundambalam. Adarsh had gone to the river with his uncle from Chettitheruvu and a few other children from the locality. According to eyewitnesses, the uncle slipped into the water and began struggling. On seeing him in distress, Adarsh reportedly jumped into the river to rescue him. Residents and others present at the spot managed to pull the uncle to safety, but Adarsh was caught in the strong current and swept away.
Rescue Efforts
Fire and rescue services personnel were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene. They launched a search operation and eventually located the boy. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to revive him. The tragedy has left the family and community in deep shock.
Family Background
Manoj and his family, originally from Chettitheruvu, were living on rent at Peechimman Nagar. Adarsh is survived by his mother Anu and a younger brother. The family is grief-stricken by the sudden loss.
