British Traveller Stunned by Delhi Metro, Declares It 'Better than London'
A British traveller's first experience on the Delhi Metro has captivated social media, as he enthusiastically compared India's capital city transit network to the iconic London Underground, suggesting it might even surpass it in several aspects.
Viral Instagram Video Highlights Metro's Features
Rory Porter shared a video on Instagram while riding the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro, documenting his journey in detail. In the now-viral clip, he applauded the system for its cleanliness, comfort, and overall efficiency, noting that it reminded him of airport-style security checks with bag scanners at stations.
He expressed amazement at the affordability, stating, "Okay, just Rs 43 (0.35 pounds) for a half-hour journey. So very, very cheap. Probably one of the cheapest trains or metros I've been on in the world." Porter also admired the modern appearance of the silver trains, calling them "very good, very modern."
Detailed Praise for Cleanliness and Comfort
As the journey progressed, Porter highlighted the condition of the coaches and seating layout. "They are very clean indeed. It smells very nice. Lots of seats. Extremely modern...I mean, look at this. It is not very overcrowded either," he observed.
He concluded with high praise, saying, "There are plenty of seats. No one is really standing up. This could be one of the best ones I have been on in the world. Very efficient, lots of stations. Better than London. Very nice, all air-conditioned, very clean, very modern."
Social Media Reactions and Comparisons
The video quickly gained traction online, prompting a flurry of reactions from users. One commenter wrote, "Our metro system is renowned globally! Showcasing vibrant state cultures, modern amenities, and so much more. Encourage your friends and family to visit INDIA. We love to host."
However, not all feedback was uniformly positive. Another user noted, "Ha ha, try going during office timings from 8 a.m to 9:30 a.m. Also no medical facilities and toilets there in the Delhi Metro train. Rates are okay and not cheap when there is a mad rush and you can't even stand." A third user reacted by suggesting, "Try Mumbai underground metro, then tell what is luxurious."
This incident highlights the growing global recognition of Delhi's public transport infrastructure, sparking discussions about urban mobility standards and cultural perceptions in the digital age.
