Bus Hits Bamboo Support at Deekshabhoomi, Disrupts Traffic

A private bus collided with one of the bamboo pillars supporting a green safety net at Deekshabhoomi square on Thursday night. The incident occurred when the bus driver misjudged his attempt to turn left onto the road towards Ajni and struck one of the bamboo support pillars holding the net. The impact caused the bamboo structure to snap and pierce the windshield of the bus, entering the cabin space. The collision also caused a portion of the green net structure to collapse onto the vehicle, further complicating the situation.

Traffic Disrupted for 30 Minutes

The bus came to an abrupt halt in a skewed, sideways position, effectively blocking a portion of the road. This led to a complete disruption of traffic at the busy intersection for nearly 30 minutes. Vehicles were stranded and honking as bystanders attempted to assess the situation and restore order. Traffic was eventually restored after the bus conductor stepped down and took the initiative to manage the scene. He helped remove the lodged bamboo pole and assisted in lifting portions of the collapsed green net to allow vehicles to pass cautiously.

Recurring Safety Concerns

This is not the first reported instance where such structures have interfered with vehicular movement or created safety concerns for motorists in the city. The incident highlights the need for better placement and reinforcement of temporary structures near busy intersections to prevent accidents. Local authorities may need to review the safety measures for such installations to avoid similar incidents in the future.
