After enduring days of oppressive heat, residents of Chandigarh received much-needed relief on Tuesday as light rain and dense cloud cover led to a drop in temperatures across the city. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 4.2 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, which helped ease daytime discomfort significantly.
Temperature Details
The maximum temperature settled at 34.6 degrees Celsius, which is approximately three degrees below the normal for this time of year. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was recorded at 22.8 degrees Celsius, one degree lower than the seasonal average. These cooler conditions brought a noticeable change from the intense heat experienced in recent days.
Causes of the Drop
Weather officials attributed the cooler conditions to sustained cloud cover and intermittent rain activity over the region. High humidity levels persisted, with maximum relative humidity reaching 69 percent, making mornings and evenings feel more pleasant. The combination of clouds and moisture helped keep temperatures in check.
The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies over Chandigarh for the next 48 hours. Temperatures are expected to remain below normal for this period, extending the respite from the pre-summer heat that had gripped the city over the past week.
Forecast and Outlook
Officials noted that an active western disturbance, coupled with moisture incursion from adjoining regions, is likely to keep weather conditions unstable until mid-week. If cloud activity continues, experts predict that maximum temperatures may hover between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius over the next couple of days, before a gradual rise later in the week. Residents can expect ongoing relief from the heat, but should stay updated on any changes in weather patterns.
