China has expressed its intent to discuss current international and regional developments at the upcoming BRICS National Security Advisors meeting, scheduled to take place in New Delhi next week. Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, shared the details in a post on X.
China's Agenda at BRICS NSA Meeting
During the 16th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisors and High Representatives on National Security, the Chinese delegation will exchange views with other BRICS members on the current international security situation, major international and regional issues, and joint responses to both conventional and non-conventional security challenges. The discussions will also serve as political preparation for the BRICS Summit scheduled for September.
Ambassador Xu emphasized that China looks forward to enhancing communication and coordination with BRICS members to enrich political and security cooperation, thereby contributing to global peace and security.
India to Host BRICS NSA Meeting
India is set to host the BRICS National Security Advisers' Meeting on June 22-23, 2026, with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval chairing the session. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the meeting will focus on the theme 'Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today.'
The National Security Advisers and Heads of Delegation from BRICS member countries will discuss the rapidly evolving nature of national security challenges and the role of new technologies in emerging security threats. They will also review the outcomes of the recently held BRICS Joint Working Groups on Counter-Terrorism and on Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies.
India's BRICS Chairship in 2026
This meeting marks India's fourth BRICS Chairship, having previously held the position in 2012, 2016, and 2021. India's chairship is guided by the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,' reflecting a people-centric and humanity-first approach articulated by Prime Minister Modi at the 2025 Rio Summit.
BRICS brings together eleven major emerging markets and developing countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. The bloc serves as a platform for consultation and cooperation on contemporary global and regional issues, as well as global political and economic governance.
Expanding BRICS Agenda
The official BRICS 2026 website highlights that the BRICS agenda has expanded considerably from its initial focus on economic issues. It is now structured around three core pillars: political and security, economy and finance, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. The cooperation continues to broaden across a wide range of global issues, including counter-terrorism, climate change, food and energy security, international economic and financial situation, telecommunications, agriculture, labour and employment, international financial architecture, trade, and the WTO.
