China Warns US on Taiwan: 'Ruthless Response'

China on Monday reiterated that Taiwan was an 'inalienable' part of its territory, drawing a red line just days after a visit by former US President Donald Trump. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun warned the United States against supplying weapons to Taipei, declaring that seeking independence by relying on foreign support was a 'dead end' and reunification with Beijing was the only path forward.

China's Firm Stance on Taiwan

In a press briefing, Guo Jiakun emphasized that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times. He stated that any attempts to split the country would be met with a 'ruthless response' from the Chinese government. The spokesperson also criticized the US for its continued arms sales to Taiwan, which he said violate the One-China principle and undermine regional stability.

Warnings Against Foreign Interference

Guo Jiakun specifically warned the United States not to supply weapons to Taipei, calling such actions a grave threat to peace and security in the Taiwan Strait. He urged the US to adhere to the principles of international law and respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The spokesperson also cautioned Taiwan's authorities against relying on foreign support for independence, stating that such actions would lead to disastrous consequences.

Reunification as the Only Path

China's foreign ministry reiterated that peaceful reunification with Beijing is the only viable path for Taiwan. Guo Jiakun stressed that the Chinese government remains committed to the policy of peaceful reunification, but will not tolerate any form of separatist activities. He called on the international community to understand and support China's position on the Taiwan issue.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, following Trump's recent visit to China. Analysts suggest that China's strong rhetoric is aimed at signaling its resolve to protect its core interests, particularly in the face of perceived US interference in the Taiwan issue.
