CM Shivakumar Proposes Harohalli for Bengaluru's Second Airport
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has suggested that Harohalli, located in the southern part of Bengaluru, could be a potential site for the city's second airport. Speaking on July 8, 2026, Shivakumar clarified that no specific site has been officially named but reiterated that the location would be in the southern region.
No Final Decision Yet
Shivakumar emphasized that the government is still evaluating options and that a final announcement will be made after thorough study. The southern corridor is being prioritized due to its connectivity and land availability.
Impact on Bengaluru's Infrastructure
The second airport aims to decongest Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), which handles over 40 million passengers annually. Harohalli, about 40 km from the city center, is near the NICE Road and proposed industrial corridors, making it a strategic choice. The project is expected to boost real estate and economic growth in the region.
