Rising River Levels Submerge Bridges in Belagavi
Heavy rainfall in the Krishna basin across Karnataka and Maharashtra has led to a significant rise in river levels, submerging 11 bridges in Belagavi district. The Kallol barrage in Chikkodi taluk recorded inflows of 1,21,097 cusecs as of July 8, 2026, according to the district administration.
Impact on Infrastructure and Daily Life
The submerged bridges have disrupted road connectivity in several rural areas, affecting daily commuters and farmers. Local authorities have advised residents to avoid crossing flooded bridges and to follow safety guidelines. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for continued heavy rainfall in the region over the next 24 hours.
Response Measures by Authorities
District officials have deployed rescue teams and are monitoring water levels at key points. Control rooms have been set up in Chikkodi and nearby taluks to coordinate relief efforts. Farmers in low-lying areas have been advised to move livestock and essential belongings to safer locations.
