Kochi: An elderly man was killed in a buffalo attack in Kalamassery, sending shockwaves through the local community. The incident occurred on Saturday around 7 pm at Kaipadamugal in Kalamassery, a suburban area of Kochi.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Abu, 73, a resident of Kollamkudi House in Kaipadamugal. According to reports, Abu was attacked by a buffalo that had broken free from a nearby field.
Sequence of Events
The buffalo, which had escaped its enclosure, was uprooting trees near Abu's house. When the elderly man attempted to chase the animal away, it turned on him aggressively. Despite hearing his cries for help, locals who rushed to the scene were unable to rescue him as the buffalo continued its assault.
Even after locals managed to pull Abu away and rush him to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Medical reports indicate he sustained severe injuries to his chest and legs, which proved fatal.
Response and Investigation
By the time the fire force arrived, the buffalo had calmed down after seeing its owner. Kalamassery police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This tragic event highlights the dangers posed by stray or escaped animals in residential areas. Authorities are urged to take preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future.
