Goa's Nadkem Hamlet Gets Road After 65 Years

Canacona: Sixty-five years after Goa's liberation, the Nadkem hamlet in the Cotigao panchayat area is no longer isolated from the rest of the state. Comprising around 20 houses, the village is set to receive a 3-kilometer motorable road and a culvert bridge across a rivulet. The foundation stone for these projects was recently laid, marking a significant milestone for the community.

Decades-Long Process

The road, which passes through the Cotigao wildlife sanctuary, received administrative clearances from the State Wildlife Board of Goa and the Central Wildlife Board after a process spanning decades, according to Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar. The lengthy approval process was necessary due to environmental considerations and the sanctuary's protected status.

Impact on Education

The new road will greatly benefit students, especially during the monsoon season. Previously, children had to stay with relatives to attend school because their own homes were inaccessible. A student told TOI that they had to live at their relatives' place during the monsoons as it was more accessible than their own home. With the new road, students will be able to commute directly, ensuring uninterrupted education.
