The Haryana government has announced the establishment of Revenue Lok Adalats in all districts across the state to facilitate the speedy resolution of land disputes. This initiative aims to reduce the burden on regular courts and provide quick justice to litigants involved in land-related conflicts.
Key Features of the Revenue Lok Adalats
These special courts will operate under the supervision of the district administration and will be headed by senior revenue officers. The Lok Adalats will hear cases related to land revenue, property boundaries, inheritance, and other civil disputes over land. The government expects that this will significantly reduce the pendency of such cases in traditional courts.
Benefits for Citizens
- Speedy Resolution: Cases will be disposed of within a stipulated timeframe, ensuring timely justice.
- Cost-Effective: Litigants will save on legal fees and court expenses as the process is simplified.
- Reduced Burden: Regular courts will be relieved of the heavy caseload, allowing them to focus on other matters.
Implementation Plan
The Revenue Lok Adalats will be set up in all 22 districts of Haryana. Each adalat will have a panel of experts including revenue officers, legal experts, and mediators. The government has also directed district magistrates to ensure adequate infrastructure and support staff for these adalats.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar emphasized that the move is part of the state's commitment to providing transparent and efficient governance. He said, "Our goal is to resolve land disputes amicably and quickly, which will also boost economic activities in rural areas."
Reactions and Impact
Legal experts and farmer unions have welcomed the decision, stating that it will save farmers from lengthy court battles. The initiative is also expected to reduce the number of cases pending in revenue courts, which currently number in the thousands. The government plans to monitor the progress of these adalats and make improvements based on feedback.
In addition to land disputes, the Lok Adalats may also handle cases related to property tax and land acquisition compensation. The first session of the Revenue Lok Adalats is scheduled to begin next month, with a target of clearing at least 50% of pending cases within the first year.
