Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds has left a trail of destruction in farms across Karnataka's Tumakuru district. The adverse weather conditions persisted in several villages under Kasaba hobli, including Mattihalli, Gurugadahalli, and Tadasur, causing significant damage to standing crops.
Extent of Damage
Farmers in the region reported extensive losses, particularly to banana plantations. The strong winds uprooted banana plants and damaged other crops, leaving fields in disarray. The continuous rainfall has also led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, further exacerbating the situation.
Impact on Farmers
Local farmers expressed distress over the sudden weather change, which has jeopardized their livelihoods. Many had invested heavily in their crops, hoping for a good yield this season. The destruction has not only caused financial losses but also raised concerns about food security in the region.
Authorities have been alerted, and agricultural officials are expected to visit the affected areas to assess the damage and provide necessary support. The district administration is likely to initiate relief measures for the affected farmers.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until the weather improves. The meteorological department has predicted more rainfall in the coming days, urging precautionary measures.
