In a significant breakthrough, security agencies seized 1.041 kilograms of heroin valued at approximately Rs 5 crore along the India-Pakistan international border in Sriganganagar on Sunday. A 20-year-old alleged smuggler was arrested during a joint operation conducted in Kesarisinhpur village.
Joint Operation Details
Officials reported that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the BSF's G Branch collaborated after intelligence indicated that a heroin consignment had been dropped into Indian territory from Pakistan using a drone. The operation, codenamed 'Dhurandhar,' was carried out under the direction of ANTF IG Vikas Kumar and NCB Zonal Director Ghanshyam Soni (IRS).
Arrest and Investigation
The accused, identified as Teerth Singh, a 20-year-old resident of Malkana Khurd in Sriganganagar, was apprehended when he arrived to collect the consignment. He is currently being interrogated, and agencies are working to identify other individuals linked to the drug trafficking network.
Evidence of Drone Delivery
The heroin was packed in two packets of 500 grams each, wrapped in yellow polythene with rings attached, indicating that it was delivered via drone. This method is increasingly being used by smugglers to transport narcotics across the border.
Legal Action
A case was registered at the NCB Jodhpur under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Singh has been taken to the NCB headquarters in Jodhpur for further questioning. Authorities are continuing their efforts to dismantle the entire network involved in this cross-border smuggling operation.
