At least five people were killed and one other injured following a collapse at an illegal mining operation in southwest China's Yunnan province on Sunday, according to state-run Xinhua news agency as reported by the Associated Press.

The collapse occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. local time in Baiwu village, located in Huize County. Authorities have not specified the type of mine involved in the incident.

Six individuals were trapped beneath the debris after the collapse. Rescue teams successfully recovered all six from the site and transported them to a hospital. However, five of them later died from their injuries. The sole survivor is reported to be in stable condition.
