The family of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has sounded a dire alarm, expressing fears that authorities may be concealing "something irreversible" about his condition. This comes as they report having no verifiable contact with the incarcerated leader for over three weeks, despite court orders granting access.
‘Psychological Torture’: Family Describes Agony of No Contact
Kasim Khan, one of Imran Khan's sons, described the situation as a form of "psychological torture" for the family. In an interview with Reuters, he stated that not knowing whether his father is safe, injured, or even alive has created immense distress. He labelled the ongoing scenario a "human rights emergency."
The family claims they have been systematically denied court-ordered prison visits. Even a judicial mandate for weekly meetings has been ignored, leaving them with no direct or verifiable communication with the former cricket star turned politician. "Today, we have no verifiable information at all about his condition," Kasim Khan emphasized, adding that their greatest fear is that "something irreversible is being hidden from us."
Repeated requests for access by Khan's personal physician have also been turned down, further heightening anxieties about his health and treatment in custody.
Political Motives Alleged Behind Complete Isolation
Kasim Khan did not mince words when attributing blame for his father's isolation. "This isolation is intentional," he asserted, pointing fingers at the authorities. He believes the measures are driven by political fear. "They are scared of him. He is Pakistan's most popular leader, and they know they cannot defeat him democratically," he claimed.
Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023, serving a combined 14-year sentence on multiple corruption charges, which he and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), maintain are politically motivated.
In a detailed post on social media platform X on November 27, 2025, Kasim provided a stark timeline. He noted his father had been under arrest for 845 days and, for the preceding six weeks, had been held in solitary confinement in a "death cell" with zero transparency. He confirmed that Khan's sisters had been denied every visit, and that he and his brother had had no contact.
Call for International Intervention and Planned Protests
Faced with a wall of silence from national authorities, the family is now appealing to the global community. Kasim Khan publicly called on the international community, global human rights organisations, and democratic voices to intervene urgently. His demands are clear:
- Demand verifiable proof that Imran Khan is alive.
- Enforce court-ordered access for the family.
- End the "inhumane isolation."
- Call for the release of a leader he says is held "solely for political reasons."
Meanwhile, Khan's political party is mobilising domestically. Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and a senior PTI leader, announced plans for a large-scale protest. He stated that all PTI parliamentarians would demonstrate outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday, demanding Khan's release from Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail.
Afridi, addressing a press conference on Sunday, accused the authorities of keeping Khan in "complete isolation" since November 4 and blocking all access. "It is a clear contempt of court. We will lodge a protest demonstration at the IHC," he declared. Following the protest, the party leaders intend to meet their incarcerated leader at the high-security jail.
