India-China Border Talks Positive, Normalization of Ties Progressing
India-China Border Talks Positive for Normalization

NEW DELHI: India and China expressed satisfaction on Thursday over the progress made in maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas, with the former saying this has enabled movement towards gradual normalisation of bilateral relations.

Constructive Diplomatic Talks

The two sides held another round of "constructive and forward-looking" diplomatic talks on the border situation - the first since July 2025 - and also discussed issues related to boundary delimitation, consistent with the understanding reached last year in Special Representatives (SR) talks on the boundary question.

Next Steps Agreed

Both sides also agreed to make "substantive" preparation for the next SR dialogue. After the 35th round of Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs talks on Thursday, India and China said in separate statements they discussed issues pertaining to delimitation, border management, mechanism building and cross-border cooperation.

The positive outcome of these talks marks a significant step towards restoring normalcy in bilateral relations, which had been strained due to border tensions. The commitment to maintain peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was reaffirmed by both sides.

Officials from both countries emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and mutual trust to resolve outstanding issues. The next round of SR talks is expected to build on the progress made during these consultations.
