India Hands Over Agro-Processing Facility in South Trinidad

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday jointly handed over an India-assisted agro-processing facility in South Trinidad along with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. The facility is powered by India's SEEDS initiative, which aims to support small and medium enterprises in developing countries.

Commitment Fulfilled

In a social media post, Jaishankar stated, 'Delivering on another commitment made by PM @narendramodi in July 2025. Jointly handed over an agro-processing facility in South Trinidad along with @PM_Kamla, powered by India’s SEEDS initiative.' He further highlighted that the project will strengthen Trinidad and Tobago's SME ecosystem and provide new opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Impact on Local Economy

The agro-processing facility is expected to boost the local economy by enabling small-scale farmers and processors to add value to their produce. It will also create jobs and enhance food security in the region. The SEEDS initiative, which stands for Support for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development, is a flagship program of the Indian government to foster economic cooperation with partner nations.
