India is looking to complement global aircraft leasing hubs rather than compete with them, according to Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu. Speaking at the 2nd India Aircraft Leasing & Financing Summit at GIFT City, the minister emphasized India's unique position in the aviation sector.
India's Aviation Market Growth
Naidu highlighted that India possesses a larger market compared to many other countries. He noted that every nation surrounding India and those closer to the region are experiencing a boom in the aviation sector. This growth trajectory positions India as a potential leader in the industry, attracting attention from neighboring countries and beyond.
Complementary Role in Global Leasing
The minister clarified that India's strategy is not to challenge established aircraft leasing hubs but to work alongside them. By fostering a supportive ecosystem, India aims to become a complementary hub that adds value to the global leasing landscape. This approach is expected to enhance India's role in the aviation value chain.
Naidu also underscored the significance of GIFT City, which has been envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a gateway to global financial services. The summit served as a platform to discuss opportunities for aircraft leasing and financing in India, with the goal of attracting international investors and stakeholders.
Regional Leadership Aspirations
The minister expressed confidence that India's growing aviation market will enable the country to emerge as a leader in the region. With increasing air travel demand and fleet expansion, India is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of aviation in Asia and beyond.
Naidu concluded by reiterating the government's commitment to creating a conducive environment for aircraft leasing activities, which will contribute to the overall growth of the civil aviation sector in India.
