An IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar was diverted to Raipur on Thursday evening due to adverse weather conditions, airline officials confirmed. Flight 6E 463, which was scheduled to land at Biju Patnaik International Airport around 7:30 pm, could not make the approach as heavy rain accompanied by gusty surface winds lashed the capital, disrupting flight operations.
Safety First: Airline's Statement
Confirming the diversion, IndiGo stated that the decision was made in the interest of passenger safety. "We regret the inconvenience caused. Please note that the flight was diverted to Raipur due to bad weather in Bhubaneswar, which is beyond our control. For any assistance, passengers may reach out to our airport team," the airline said while responding to a flyer's post on X.
Passenger Concerns
Earlier, passenger Manjit Mohanty took to X to flag the issue, expressing frustration over the lack of updates. "No update as of now. Request confirmation when we can safely fly back to Bhubaneswar," he wrote. The airline assured that passengers would be assisted and provided with necessary information once weather conditions improve.
The diversion highlights the challenges posed by sudden weather changes in the region, particularly during the monsoon season. Authorities at Biju Patnaik International Airport are closely monitoring the situation to ensure safe flight operations.
