HESCOM, the electricity supply company in Karnataka, has reported a significant financial loss of Rs 11.69 crore due to pre-monsoon rains. The damage assessment reveals extensive destruction to power infrastructure across the district.
Details of Damages
According to the report, a total of 1,652 electricity poles collapsed, leading to losses amounting to Rs 165.20 lakh. Additionally, four power transformers worth Rs 4 lakh were damaged. The most substantial loss came from eight high-tension towers, which were valued at Rs 10 crore. Furthermore, 0.85 km of electricity lines were destroyed, causing a loss of Rs 43,000.
Impact on Power Supply
The extensive damage has disrupted power supply in several areas. Repair teams are working to restore electricity as quickly as possible. The pre-monsoon rains, which are typically expected to bring relief, have instead caused significant infrastructure challenges for HESCOM.
The company is now focusing on emergency repairs and assessing the full extent of the damage to prevent further losses. Local authorities have been alerted to ensure swift action in restoring normalcy.
