Kufos Drafts Vision 2040 Plan for World-Class University

Kochi: The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (Kufos) has prepared a draft institutional development plan (IDP) that envisions the university's transformation into a world-class multidisciplinary education and research institution by 2040. According to university officials, the draft IDP will be uploaded to the official Kufos website for public comments and suggestions.

Strategic Vision and Collaborations

University officials stated that the support and suggestions received from experts across various sectors have strengthened confidence in Kufos emerging as a global leader in fisheries, ocean sciences, blue economy, and coastal sustainability. They emphasized that collaborations with stakeholders in India and abroad, along with alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), would help realize the vision outlined in the IDP.

Workshop on Strategic Pathways

As part of the initiative, the university organized a strategic interactive workshop titled "KUFOS@2040: Strategic Pathways to a World-Class MERU" last week. The workshop brought together academicians, scientists, industry leaders, policymakers, alumni, and other stakeholders to discuss the university's future direction. V N Rajasekharan Pillai inaugurated the workshop and highlighted the role Kufos could play in India's emerging Blue Economy strategies. He stressed the need for the university to focus on select thrust areas to achieve global excellence and called for livelihood-oriented programs for fisheries communities as well as microcredential-based learning systems for the fisheries sector.
