Leopard Spotted on IIT Bombay Campus
In a startling incident, a leopard was captured on CCTV slipping into the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay campus in Mumbai. The big cat was seen attacking and killing a stray dog, causing panic among students and faculty members.
The footage, which has gone viral on social media, shows the leopard entering the campus premises during the early hours of the morning. It swiftly pounces on a stray dog, dragging it away. The incident highlights the growing instances of wildlife straying into human habitats, particularly in areas bordering forests.
Forest Department Responds
Following the incident, forest department officials were alerted and have set up traps to capture the leopard. They have advised students and staff to remain cautious and avoid venturing out alone, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
IIT Bombay is located in Powai, which is adjacent to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, a protected area known for its leopard population. This is not the first time a leopard has been spotted on the campus; similar incidents have been reported in the past.
Authorities are working to ensure the safety of both humans and the animal. The leopard will be relocated to a safer habitat once captured.
