Leopard Safely Rescued from Residential Home in Mysuru After Tense Standoff
A dangerous and unexpected situation unfolded in Mysuru on Friday when a leopard was discovered inside a house in Siddhartha Layout, close to the forested Chamundi Hills area. The big cat, estimated to be three years old, was successfully rescued by forest department officials after a tense three-hour operation that involved a team of 20 personnel.
Family's Quick Thinking Prevents Tragedy
The leopard entered the residence of Suresh, a retired revenue department official, while family members were present inside the home. At the time, Suresh's wife Sujata and his mother Shailaja were at the property. The animal reportedly made its way into Shailaja's room, creating a highly perilous scenario. The presence of the leopard came to light around 9 am during routine cleaning activities.
Sujata demonstrated remarkable presence of mind and courage during the frightening incident. She acted swiftly to protect Shailaja and helped contain the situation, preventing it from escalating further. Her calm response under extreme pressure was crucial in ensuring the safety of all family members until professional help could arrive.
Forest Department's Rescue Operation
After being alerted about the leopard's presence, forest department officials rushed to the location. Deputy Conservator of Forests K Paramesh confirmed that the team launched an immediate operation to capture the animal using tranquilizer darts. When personnel reached the home, which adjoins the Teresian educational institution campus in east Mysuru, they found the leopard hiding under a cot.
The rescue team carefully sedated the big cat with a tranquilizer before safely extracting it from the residential premises. The entire operation lasted approximately three hours from start to completion. Officials noted that the leopard likely originated from Chamundi Hills, which is situated less than one kilometer away from the incident location.

Forest department officials have indicated that the leopard will likely be released back into its natural habitat in the woods.
