Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) experienced a record-breaking day on Monday, handling 16 flight diversions, the highest number ever managed by the airport in a single day. This occurred after poor weather conditions disrupted flight operations during the early hours.
Flights Diverted Due to Poor Weather
Among the affected flights was IndiGo flight 6E6476 from Delhi to Lucknow, which hovered over Lucknow city airspace for nearly an hour due to bad weather. The flight was diverted to Bhopal at around 9:30 am, later returning to Lucknow in the afternoon carrying Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya.
Other Lucknow-bound flights, including 6E179 from Hyderabad and 6E146 from Chandigarh, also hovered over Uttar Pradesh airspace for nearly an hour due to poor weather, landing only after receiving air traffic control clearance.
Night and Early Morning Diversions
Earlier, in the early hours, CCSIA handled 15 flights en route to Delhi from various cities that were diverted to Lucknow due to poor weather in the national capital. Out of these 15, one flight from Jaipur was diverted to Lucknow at 3:54 am due to a medical emergency. Additionally, flight QP 1880 from Bengaluru to Gorakhpur was diverted to Lucknow at 5:40 pm.
Airport officials confirmed that this surpasses a previous instance in 2025 when around 13 flights were diverted to Lucknow due to adverse weather in Delhi and nearby regions. According to flight diversion and arrival data, flights such as 6E663D, 6E101, 6E2376, and AI1895 from Jaipur; 6E6025 and SG902 from Hyderabad; IX1042 from Guwahati; 6E839 from Bengaluru; AI2986 from Mumbai; 6E2409 from Coimbatore; 6E6257 from Aurangabad; IX164 from Muscat; 6E1082 from Phuket; and AI212 from Kathmandu landed in Lucknow during the night and early morning hours.
Flight 6E409D from Lucknow to Delhi was sent back to Lucknow airport at 4 am.
This unprecedented number of diversions highlights the significant impact of weather conditions on air travel in the region.
