A 42-year-old man lost his life after being run over by a government bus at the Thuvarankurichi bus stand in Trichy district during the early hours of Thursday.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as A Pandiyan, a resident of Kurumbapatti in Natham taluk, Dindigul district. According to police reports, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. while Pandiyan was waiting for a bus to travel to Dindigul.
How the Accident Happened
A government town bus, which was heading to Manapparai, entered the bus stand from the depot to pick up passengers. The driver reportedly failed to notice Pandiyan and knocked him down. Subsequently, the bus ran over him, causing severe injuries. Pandiyan succumbed to his injuries and died at the spot.
Upon receiving information about the accident, Thuvarankurichi police personnel rushed to the scene. They retrieved the body and sent it to the Manapparai government hospital for a postmortem examination.
Legal Action Taken
A case has been registered in connection with the incident. Police are conducting further investigations to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
