Nepal-IIA Dialogue on Trade and Investment Cooperation

A delegation from Nepal and the Indian Industries Association (IIA) convened a strategic dialogue on Saturday to explore avenues for enhancing trade, investment, and MSME cooperation between Nepal and Uttar Pradesh. The meeting centered on expanding bilateral engagement across key sectors, including food processing, agro-based industries, tourism, cross-border logistics, information technology, renewable energy, and manufacturing.

Delegation and Discussions

The Nepal delegation, headed by Chargé d’Affaires Dr. Surendra Thapa, comprised Economic Minister Tara Nath Adhikari, Economic Counsellor Rabindra Jung Thapa, and Accounts Counsellor Bhesh Prasad Bhurtel. They interacted with industrialists, exporters, and MSME representatives from across Uttar Pradesh, fostering a dialogue aimed at translating geographical and cultural proximity into robust economic partnerships.

Opportunities and Reforms

IIA officials emphasized that the dialogue sought to convert existing goodwill into practical business opportunities. “This is the right time to convert the existing goodwill into practical business opportunities,” said Aman Agrawal, Chairman of IIA’s International Relations Cell. During the discussions, the Nepal delegation shared details on investment opportunities, liberal foreign investment policies, special economic zones, and ongoing business-friendly reforms in Nepal.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Thapa underscored that India-Nepal ties are rooted in shared history, culture, and strong people-to-people connections. He added that deeper economic cooperation with Uttar Pradesh could significantly contribute to regional prosperity.
