A non-governmental organization (NGO) in Jalandhar has broadened its Jal Sewa campaign to include provisions for animals, aiming to mitigate their suffering during the intense summer heat. The initiative, which originally focused on providing drinking water to humans, now encompasses the installation of water bowls and small tanks at strategic locations across the city to cater to stray animals, birds, and other creatures.
Expansion of Services
The NGO, known for its community service, recognized the critical need for water among animals as temperatures soared. Volunteers have been actively placing earthen pots, metal bowls, and small concrete tanks in parks, streets, and near temples. These containers are regularly refilled to ensure a constant supply of clean water.
Community Involvement
Local residents have also joined the effort, with many offering to maintain the water stations near their homes. The NGO has encouraged this participation, emphasizing that collective action can significantly reduce animal dehydration and mortality. The drive has received positive feedback from animal lovers and activists.
Impact and Future Plans
According to the NGO coordinator, the expanded drive has already helped hundreds of animals daily. Plans are underway to install more water points in rural areas and along highways where animals often struggle to find water. The organization also plans to distribute water-saving tips to the public.
This initiative highlights the importance of compassion towards all living beings and the role of community-driven efforts in addressing environmental challenges. The NGO hopes to inspire similar drives in other cities.
