PM Modi Says India-Indonesia Ties Go Beyond 'Kuch Kuch' to 'Bahut Kuch'
PM Modi on India-Indonesia Ties: 'Kuch Kuch' to 'Bahut Kuch'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Indian diaspora in Jakarta on Tuesday, described Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto as "a true friend of India" and highlighted the deep cultural and emotional connection between the two nations. Speaking at a community event, Modi noted the immense popularity of the Bollywood song 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' in Indonesia, playfully remarking that when India and Indonesia move forward together, it goes beyond just 'kuch kuch' to 'bahut kuch'—meaning much more.

Modi's Heartfelt Gratitude to President Prabowo

"I express my heartfelt gratitude to President Prabowo for his words. Excellency, you are a true friend of India. Thank you for being here. I have been overwhelmed by the warmth and affection shown to me by the people of Indonesia; words fall short to describe it," PM Modi said. He added that he saw a clear reflection of love, respect, and a deep sense of connection towards India on every face he encountered.

Bollywood and Bilateral Ties

Modi observed that the Bollywood song 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' is extremely popular in Indonesia. "Today, I told President Prabowo that when India and Indonesia move forward together, it goes far beyond just 'kuch kuch'; it leads to 'bahut kuch'," he said, drawing applause from the audience. The remark underscored the growing strategic partnership and cultural synergy between the two countries.

Football Fever and Diaspora Enthusiasm

PM Modi also touched on the passion for football in Indonesia, especially during the FIFA World Cup. He noted a remarkable coincidence: his visits to Indonesia have consistently coincided with the global sporting event. "The first event took place in Jakarta in 2018, then we met in Bali in 2022, and now, in 2026, we are interacting in Jakarta once again. On all three occasions, the buzz of football has resonated across Indonesia," he said. Modi playfully declared the Indian diaspora as the "Man of the Match" for all three events, praising their energy and enthusiasm.

Cultural Performances and Diaspora Meeting

Ahead of his address, PM Modi met several members of the Indian community and witnessed a traditional performance by the Indian diaspora. He is on a three-day state visit to Indonesia, during which he held bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto and addressed the Indonesian Parliament earlier in the day.
