PM Modi and President Herminie Explore Botanical Garden
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Seychelles National Botanical Garden in Victoria on Saturday, June 27, 2026, accompanied by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie. The visit highlighted cultural and environmental cooperation during Modi's State Visit to the island nation.
Before arriving, Modi posted on X: "On the way to the Seychelles National Botanical Garden with President Dr. Patrick Herminie." The garden, a key attraction, symbolizes the close rapport between the two leaders.
Welcome and Diaspora Enthusiasm
Modi landed in Victoria earlier on Saturday and was warmly received at Seychelles International Airport. He expressed optimism on X, stating he anticipated a productive visit to deepen bilateral cooperation. The Indian diaspora greeted him with enthusiasm, showcasing strong people-to-people ties.
In a post, Modi thanked President Herminie for the tarmac hospitality, calling Seychelles a "valued maritime partner" and a close friend in the Indian Ocean. He emphasized that the engagements would reinforce historical ties and drive mutual benefits.
Golden Jubilee and Strategic Talks
The visit coincides with Seychelles' Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations. Modi noted on X: "This year, it is even more special because it is the Golden Jubilee celebrations." He outlined the trip's diplomatic vision, characterizing Seychelles as a "valued maritime neighbour" and highlighting its role in India's Vision MAHASAGAR initiative for the Global South.
Following the botanical garden visit, the focus shifts to high-level talks with President Herminie. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders will evaluate the full range of India-Seychelles engagement, including maritime security, developmental cooperation, capacity enhancement, and strategic defence partnerships. They will also discuss regional and international issues of shared concern.
Modi stated on X: "I look forward to discussions with my friend, Dr. Patrick Herminie, President of the Republic of Seychelles." He is also scheduled to address the National Assembly to highlight bilateral bonds. "I am honoured to be addressing the National Assembly of Seychelles during the visit. I also look forward to meeting the Indian community there," he remarked.

The Indian Ocean region is pivotal in bilateral relations, with both countries sharing deep historical, cultural, and economic ties. The MEA noted that this visit, Modi's first to Seychelles since 2015, is projected to reinforce the robust alliance and open new avenues for collaboration.
