The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged theft of funds from the Ram Mandir construction account has submitted an interim report, finding large-scale procedural violations. Sources indicated that the report held some Temple Trust officer bearers guilty of laxity in financial management.
Procedural Lapses Identified
The SIT, constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government, scrutinized financial transactions related to the Ram Mandir construction. The interim report highlighted significant deviations from standard operating procedures, including unauthorized withdrawals and lack of proper documentation. According to sources, the violations were widespread, involving multiple officials over an extended period.
Trust Officials Under Scrutiny
Several officer bearers of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust were found negligent in their duties. The report specifically named individuals responsible for overseeing fund allocation and expenditure. "The SIT has recommended disciplinary action against those found guilty," a source said, requesting anonymity.
Financial Irregularities
The probe uncovered discrepancies in donation receipts and construction expenses. Preliminary estimates suggest misappropriation of funds running into crores of rupees. The SIT has called for a forensic audit to trace the exact quantum of theft. "We are examining bank statements and invoices to establish the trail," an SIT officer stated.
Next Steps
The interim report has been submitted to the state government, which is expected to take further action. The SIT will continue its investigation, focusing on recovering the embezzled funds. The Trust has been asked to tighten its financial controls and submit monthly expenditure reports.
