Belagavi: City police commissioner Bhushan Borse called upon minority community leaders to work closely with the police department and civil administration to promote communal harmony and address emerging social challenges, including the misuse of social media, drug abuse, gambling, and petty crimes.
Meeting with Minority Committee Members
He was speaking at a meeting of state government-nominated members of the district minority committee, which has been constituted to oversee the implementation of the Prime Minister's 15-point programme for minorities. The meeting was held at the commissioner's office on Tuesday.
Call for Collective Efforts
Borse also underscored the need for collective efforts to steer youth towards responsible citizenship. "Young people today have the potential to shape society. It is essential that we work together to create awareness and guide them in the right direction," he said.
Initiatives to Curb Social Evils
He also briefed members on various initiatives undertaken by the city police to curb drug abuse, gambling, and other social issues. He urged community leaders to actively participate in awareness drives and outreach programmes to discourage such activities.
Key Attendees and Proposals
Deputy Commissioner of Police Narayan Baramani and district minority officer Vijay Prakash Pujer also attended and shared suggestions based on their administrative experience. Members of the committee, including Louis Rodrigues, Niyaz Soudagar, Shahid Memon, and Parminder Bhatia, were present. Key proposals discussed include the formation of Mohalla committees, organising awareness programmes in schools and colleges, and addressing issues concerning Muslims, Christians, Jains, Sikhs, and other minorities.
