A private bus turned turtle at Charmadi Ghat in Karnataka, leaving at least 15 passengers injured on Tuesday. The accident occurred when the bus, en route from Mangaluru to Kottigehara, lost control and overturned on the ghat road.
Details of the Accident
The incident took place near the sharp curve at Charmadi Ghat, a notorious stretch known for its treacherous bends. The bus, carrying around 20 passengers, skidded off the road and overturned. Local residents and passersby rushed to the spot to rescue the trapped passengers.
Injuries and Rescue Operations
According to police, 15 passengers sustained injuries, with three in critical condition. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the bus is reported to have survived with minor injuries.
Rescue operations were carried out by the local police and fire services. The injured were transported to the district hospital in Mangaluru for further medical attention.
Cause of the Accident
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused due to brake failure. The bus was reportedly speeding before losing control on the descent. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Charmadi Ghat has been a site of several accidents in the past due to its steep gradients and sharp curves. Authorities have been urged to improve road safety measures on this stretch.
