A 40-year-old man from Punjab was fatally shot in Manila, the Philippines, where he operated a finance business, according to police and family members. The deceased, Ranjit Singh, a resident of Daulatpura village in Ferozepur district, was allegedly attacked while en route to recover outstanding debts. He was shot in the back of the head at close range, causing instantaneous death.
Incident Details
Police reported that the incident occurred on May 8 when Ranjit was traveling on a motorcycle to a market area. Two unidentified assailants on another motorcycle intercepted him and opened fire. Five spent bullet casings were recovered from the scene, and an investigation has been launched.
Background of the Victim
Ranjit had moved to Manila several years ago in search of better livelihood opportunities and ran a finance business with his elder brother. He is survived by his wife, an eight-year-old daughter, and a four-year-old son. At the time of the incident, his elder brother was visiting their native village in Punjab, leaving Ranjit to handle the business alone.
Possible Motive
Family members revealed that Ranjit had recently been involved in an altercation with some individuals linked to his business. Preliminary findings suggest the murder could be connected to his finance business, a suspicion also expressed by his wife, according to local media reports in the Philippines.
