Ferozepur: In a major crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking, Punjab Police's counter intelligence wing has dismantled an alleged drug smuggling module in the Ferozepur district. Four individuals were apprehended, and authorities seized 28.1 kilograms of heroin along with Rs 9.5 lakh in suspected drug proceeds.
Details of the Arrest
The accused have been identified as Bagicha Singh and Bhupinder, both residents of Boghiwala village; Sajan Singh from Aarayian Wala; and Chhinder Pal Singh alias Rinku of Lakha Singh Wala. The arrests were made in the Guru Har Sahai area. Additionally, law enforcement officials impounded a Hyundai Creta SUV believed to have been used for transporting the narcotics.
Legal Action and Investigation
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the SSOC police station in Fazilka. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network, including both forward and backward linkages. Police anticipate further arrests and seizures as the probe continues.
Value of Seized Heroin
According to Ferozepur counter intelligence AIG Gursewak Singh, the confiscated heroin is estimated to have a street value of approximately Rs 142 crore in the international market. The police acted on a tip-off that the accused were en route to deliver a consignment of heroin, leading to the interception and seizure.
Further inquiries are underway to identify the handlers based across the border who are believed to be orchestrating the smuggling operations. The police remain vigilant in their efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the region.
