Shimla: Widespread light to moderate rain brought respite from the heat across Himachal Pradesh on Friday, with temperatures dropping sharply in most areas. The Met department has forecast more rain across the state till June 18.
The average maximum temperature dropped by 6.7°C during the past 24 hours and remained 5.6°C below normal.
The sharpest decline was recorded in Una and Bilaspur, where day temperatures plunged by 11.6°C each in the past 24 hours. Bhuntar witnessed a drop of 9.9°C, while Manali, Mandi, Kangra and Sundernagar recorded falls ranging between 6.8°C and 8.9°C.
Una recorded the highest maximum temperature of 32.4°C, followed by Neri at 31.4°C, Berthin at 30.9°C and Kangra and Sundernagar at 30.2°C each. Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 22.5°C, while Manali settled at 18.6°C.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, thunderstorms, lightning, hail and gusty winds are also likely at isolated places in the state. Maximum temperatures are expected to fall further by 4°C-6°C during the next 24 hours before gradually rising over the following four to five days.
