Rain brings relief to Himachal Pradesh from soaring heat

Shimla: Many parts of Himachal Pradesh received light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday, bringing relief from the soaring mercury. The rain occurred in areas across Kullu, Mandi, Lahaul and Spiti, Bilaspur, Una, Kangra, Solan, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts.

Temperature Drops Across the State

The precipitation caused the maximum temperature to fall several notches below normal throughout the state. According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, Una recorded the highest maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius, a drop of 4.2 degrees below the normal. Shimla's maximum temperature dropped 5.4 degrees below normal to settle at 18 degrees Celsius.

Manali recorded a maximum temperature of 20.8 degrees Celsius, a decrease of 2.5 degrees. Solan experienced a maximum of 20.5 degrees Celsius, which was 10.1 degrees below normal. Sundernagar's day temperature was recorded at 24.5 degrees Celsius, a drop of 8.5 degrees, and Bhuntar recorded a maximum of 24 degrees Celsius, 5.9 degrees below normal.

Dharamshala registered a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, 2.9 degrees below normal; Nahan 29.5 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees below normal; Kangra 29.4 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees below normal; and Kalpa 19.5 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees below normal.

Rainfall Data and Forecast

The state has recorded 61.4 mm of rainfall so far this month, which is 2 percent above the normal of 60.4 mm. The weather department has predicted light rain and snow in parts of the state until May 4.

This spell of rain has provided much-needed relief from the rising temperatures, bringing down the mercury significantly in many regions. The cooler conditions are expected to persist for a few more days as per the forecast.
