The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that rain will continue across Himachal Pradesh until July 1, 2026. The state has been experiencing heavy downpours since last week, leading to waterlogging and disruption in normal life in several areas.
Yellow and Orange Alerts Issued
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for isolated places in the districts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba for June 26. An orange alert has been sounded for June 27 and 28, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in these regions. The weather office has advised residents to remain cautious and avoid venturing into vulnerable areas.
Impact on Daily Life
Continuous rain has caused landslides on many roads, disrupting traffic movement. The state capital Shimla has recorded significant rainfall, with waterlogging reported in low-lying areas. The local administration has set up control rooms to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected people.
Precautionary Measures
According to the State Disaster Management Authority, people are advised to stay indoors during heavy downpours and avoid crossing swollen streams and rivers. Farmers have been cautioned to protect their crops from waterlogging. The IMD has predicted a gradual decrease in rainfall intensity after July 1.
