At least 30 people lost their lives and many others sustained injuries after severe storms and hailstorms battered the Mirzapur and Bhadohi districts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The extreme weather event struck the eastern part of the state around 5:30 pm, bringing with it heavy rainfall, hail, and wind speeds reaching up to 80 kmph.
Impact in Mirzapur
Mirzapur District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Gangwar described the storm as cyclone-like, with wind speeds of nearly 60 kmph. At least 17 people died in the district due to collapsing structures and related accidents. The storm caused extensive damage to livestock and residential properties. The state government announced compensation of Rs. 4 lakh per deceased family from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).
Bhadohi District Devastation
In Bhadohi, the powerful storm hit around 5:30 pm, causing multiple incidents across various police station areas. Casualties occurred when trees were uprooted, electricity poles collapsed onto houses, and a pole fell on a temple. District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar, along with police officials, visited several affected villages to assess damage and oversee relief efforts.
The DM confirmed approximately 15 deaths in Bhadohi. Additionally, eight people were injured, and 16 livestock were reported lost in separate incidents.
Rescue and Relief Operations
Police and administrative teams are actively conducting rescue operations. All trapped or buried individuals in the affected areas have been safely rescued. The injured are receiving treatment at nearby Community Health Centres, while three critically injured persons have been referred to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for advanced medical care.

Authorities have appealed to the public to promptly report any similar incidents through designated CUG numbers to ensure swift relief and rescue operations. Officials remain on high alert and are continuously monitoring updates from social media and media partners, taking immediate action wherever required.
