ULHASNAGAR: The long-standing demand for a Sindhu Nagar metro station is set to become a reality as part of the Metro 5A corridor, according to BJP MLA Kumar Ailani. He stated that the project has gained significant momentum following the state government's approval of ₹4,063 crore for its implementation.
Announcement and Background
Speaking at a press conference, Ailani highlighted that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had promised during an election rally in Ulhasnagar to bring metro connectivity to the city and name one of the stations after Sindhu Nagar, reflecting the area's cultural identity. He emphasized that this has been a long-pending demand of residents, and with the sanction of funds, it now appears closer to reality.
Support from Key Leaders
Ailani expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and MP Shrikant Shinde for their support in advancing the project, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the region.
Other Development Works
In addition to the metro project, Ailani provided updates on several other development initiatives:
- Road Concreting: A ₹99 crore project for concreting key city roads is in the final stage of approval, while an additional proposal worth ₹120 crore has been submitted to the state government.
- Water Supply: A ₹220 crore project to develop an independent water source is underway, with efforts aimed at ensuring 24-hour water supply in the future.
- Building Regularisation: Continuous review meetings are being held to speed up the process. Issues related to the assistant director of town planning (ADTP) have been resolved, which will help accelerate redevelopment of dilapidated buildings and generate revenue.
Dumping Ground and Metro Routes
Ailani also mentioned that efforts are underway to resolve the dumping ground issue. He added that options such as underground or double-decker metro routes are being explored to minimise disruption during construction.
Infrastructure Progress
Works on seven major roads by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) are nearly 90% complete. Additional works like dividers and paving blocks will be taken up soon. A separate ₹65 crore fund has been sanctioned for development of internal roads and public toilets ahead of the monsoon, Ailani said.
