A stabbing at Foss High School in Tacoma, Washington, on Thursday afternoon left four students and an adult security guard injured, according to police and fire officials. A sixth person, identified as the student suspect, was also injured and is now in police custody.
Tacoma Fire Department crews arrived at the scene at 1:38 pm local time and transported five patients to local hospitals. Four of those patients were in critical condition, while one had minor injuries. The suspect was also hospitalised with minor injuries. Authorities confirmed that all six individuals were in stable condition as of late Thursday afternoon.
Following the incident, the school was placed on immediate lockdown. Students were safely dismissed by 2:45 pm local time to a designated reunification area in the student parking lot. Tacoma Public Schools announced that all classes and after-school activities for Friday are cancelled. The campus is set to reopen on Monday, with counsellors available to support the community.
Police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd stated that an investigation into the circumstances of the attack is ongoing. The district expressed gratitude for the rapid response of first responders and staff.
