SWR slow on train regularisation despite Railway Board approval
SWR slow on train regularisation despite Railway Board nod

The South Western Railway (SWR) has been slow in regularising trains despite receiving approval from the Railway Board. Out of 13 train pairs approved for regularisation, only six have been made permanent so far. Seven more pairs are yet to be regularised, including two trains connecting destinations outside Karnataka and one linking Goa with coastal Karnataka.

Background of the Delay

The Railway Board had granted permission to regularise these trains to improve connectivity and passenger convenience. However, the SWR has cited operational challenges and infrastructure constraints as reasons for the delay. The regularisation process involves converting temporary or special trains into permanent services, which requires adjustments in scheduling, crew allocation, and maintenance.

Trains Awaiting Regularisation

Among the pending trains are key inter-state routes. For instance, a train connecting Karnataka with neighbouring states remains unregularised, affecting passengers who depend on these services for daily commute and travel. Another train linking Goa with coastal Karnataka is also in the queue, which is crucial for tourism and local economic activities.

The SWR has assured that efforts are underway to regularise the remaining trains at the earliest. A senior official stated that the railway zone is working on resolving the operational issues and hopes to complete the process within the next few months.

Impact on Passengers

The delay has caused inconvenience to regular commuters and travelers who rely on these services. Passengers have expressed frustration over the uncertainty of train schedules and the lack of permanent status for these routes. Many have urged the railway authorities to expedite the process to ensure reliable and consistent services.

The regularisation of trains is expected to enhance connectivity, boost tourism, and support local economies in the regions served by the SWR. The railway zone has promised to prioritise the remaining trains and complete the formalities soon.
