The Bizarre Prophecy and Theft
The event occurred near the well-known Wat Chaimongkol royal temple in South Pattaya. A 19-year-old girl, identified as Pim, felt sympathy for a poorly dressed fortune teller, Udomsap Mueangkaew, aged 38, and decided to get her fortune read as the new year began. What started as an act of kindness quickly spiraled into a real-life crime drama.
According to police reports, Udomsap told Pim that dark luck was looming over her and that she would soon lose a valuable possession. He then asked her for money, claiming it was needed to counteract the impending bad fortune. When Pim refused to pay, the situation took a criminal turn. After the session ended and Pim walked away, she realized her iPhone, which had been placed beside her during the reading, was missing.
Confrontation and Ironic Justification
Alarmed, Pim rushed back to confront Udomsap. The fortune teller denied any involvement and, with bold irony, insisted that the missing phone merely proved his prediction had been accurate. Unconvinced by this twisted logic, Pim sought help from bystanders. The local people intervened, and the police were promptly called to the scene.
When officers searched Udomsap's belongings, they made a telling discovery. The missing iPhone was found hidden inside his bag, carefully tucked away in a box meant for face masks. The prophecy of loss had a very simple and practical explanation: theft.

Following his detention, Udomsap admitted to taking the phone. He pleaded with Pim not to file a formal complaint, claiming it was his first offence and that he needed money to get through the New Year period. His pleas were unsuccessful. He was arrested and taken to the Pattaya City Police Station, where officers also seized his fortune-telling paraphernalia. Pim was reunited with her phone.
